Students from Greek LOL, an online Greek language school who have painstakingly taken online courses from their computers throughout the world, will now have an opportunity to put their new language skills to use in Greece.
The excursion is led by teachers with whom the students have only communicated digitally, via their online courses offered by Greek LOL.
Students from throughout the world are meeting in Athens on July 22 and will embark on a week-long journey, not only speaking their way through Greece– but also immersing themselves in history, culture, food and traditions.
The excursion to Greece will allow students to put their newfound skills to hands-on use, ordering food in restaurants, visiting ancient sites and conversing amongst each others and with locals.
Stella Bompotsiari-Vri, Director of Studies at Greek LOL believes strongly in the excursion to Greece.
“Is there really a better and more motivating way for students to put their Greek into practice? Travelling around Greece for one week is the greatest way not only to communicate with locals but also to immerse into greek history, culture, food, and summer! After years of online classes Greek LOL students are meeting in person to experience the Greek life.”
On the 22nd of July the students will meet in Athens and then they are setting off for their trip.
The first stop will be the Acropolis museum. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It opened to the public in 2009, exhibiting more than 4,000 objects over an area of 14,000 square meters.
From Athens they are driving to Aigio, to enjoy the Mediterranean sea and the sun. On the 25th of July they will be visiting Delphi which was considered by ancient Greeks to be the centre of the world. The following day will be dedicated to Ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games were held every four years from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.
From Aigio they will travel to Nafplion, with a stop-over at ancient Korinthos. Nafplio is a seaport town, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Greece, from the beginning of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834.
Everybody is staying in Nafplio for two days, not only to enjoy the beauty of the city but also to visit Mycenae. In ancient times, Mycenae flourished into a fortified city and was once ruled by the famous King Agamemnon. On the last day, Friday the 29th of July, they will attend the theatrical performance Oedipus Tyrannus of Sophocles, at the famous theatre of Ancient Epidavros.
