A Greek Singer and an Orchestra of Arab and Jewish Musicians Prove that Music Can Unite

Peace in the Middle East may seem like a dream given the horrific events that have unfolded between Jews and Palestinians over the past several months.

But an unprecedented concert featuring Glykeria, known the world over as “the voice of Greece” and one of the most popular singers in Israel, proved that when politics and religion are removed, humanity can unite with music.

Featuring the Jerusalem East West Orchestra, led by conductor Tom Cohen, Glykeria performed a concert at the Holon Theater in Jerusalem in November 2022.

Thousands of fans sang with Glykeria– songs in Greek, in Ladino (the language of Sephardic Jews from Greece) and Hebrew. At times they danced, as Glykeria shared her light– and her voice.
