Join Greek America Foundation in Chios July 31-August 1st for Community Service Projects

The Greek America Foundation will mark the 10th anniversary of its Greek America Corps summer volunteer program with two days of service and community events on the island of Chios on July 31 and August 1.

The Chios Community Days gathering will bring together current volunteers, program alumni, supporters, families, local partners and friends of the foundation from Greece and abroad. Guests are welcomed to join the events, provided registration is completed in advance.

The anniversary will be marked through volunteer service, community activities and gatherings reflecting the work Greek America Corps has carried out in Greece over the past decade. Hundreds of volunteers from the United States and Canada have participated in the program, working alongside local nonprofit organizations and supporting vulnerable communities across the country.

At the center of the Chios weekend will be the foundation’s continuing partnership with METAdrasi, a Greek nonprofit organization supporting refugees, migrants, unaccompanied children and other vulnerable populations.

Greek America Corps volunteers have supported METAdrasi’s work on Chios through educational and recreational activities with children, as well as gardening, painting, maintenance and other projects improving shared community spaces. Participants in the anniversary weekend will have an opportunity to learn about the organization’s work and serve alongside its staff and members of the refugee community.

The weekend will also include a community beach cleanup bringing together Greek America Corps volunteers, visiting participants, adult refugees and members of the METAdrasi team. The joint effort will combine community service with environmental stewardship, helping protect the natural coastline of Chios while creating an opportunity for participants to work together outside the refugee center.

Additional activities will include community-improvement projects, informal gatherings and a celebration recognizing the volunteers, alumni, nonprofit partners and supporters who have contributed to Greek America Corps during its first decade.

The gathering will also allow former volunteers to return to Chios, reconnect with other alumni and meet the 2026 team serving on the island.

Families are welcome to participate, with age-appropriate opportunities planned for children and teenagers. Guests traveling to Chios are encouraged to arrive on Thursday, July 30, ahead of the official program.

Registration is required for the Community Days activities. The complete program and registration information are available through the Greek America Foundation.
