New Study Finds Athens Is One of the World’s Brightest Cities

Athenians frequently rave about how beautiful the natural light is in their city, and a new study has confirmed that the Greek capital is indeed one of the world’s brightest cities.

Research by Feel Good Contacts UK has concluded that Athens is the sixth brightest city in the world.

The study analyzed the average number of daylight hours, light pollution levels and artificial brightness levels in 50 capitals to issue a total brightness score out of 10 points. Athens scored 4.58.

First place went to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which scored 7.11 points, followed by Moscow, Washington D.C and London.

The study found that increasingly more cities are installing LED and artificial lights to advance technologically and reduce energy consumption.

Although revolutionary in some cities, the growing prevalence of LED lights could have a serious impact on human vision, research shows.

The darkest city in the world is Bogota, Colombia, with just more than 3.5 hours of sunlight a day while also reporting one of the lowest levels of artificial brightness.
