American School in Athens Responding to Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis

As the conflict in Ukraine intensifies and more refugees begin pouring into Greece, students, faculty and staff at the American Community Schools in Athens are coming together as a community to respond where needed.

As the barbaric invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces plays out on televisions screens across the world, a team in Greece decided they needed to act.

More than one million Ukrainians have fled their homes since the onslaught of Russian forces, many with only the clothes on their back and whatever emergency supplies they could carry in backpacks or carry-on luggage.

In a coordinated effort and in cooperation with the Greek aid organizations “All Together We Can” (ΟΛΟΙ ΜΑΖΙ ΜΠΟΡΟΥΜΕ) and “The Smile of the Child” (ΤΟ ΧΑΜΟΓΕΛΟ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΙΔΙΟΥ), The American Community School Athens PTO, faculty and students have begun collecting blankets, sleeping bags, baby food, long-life milk, diapers and personal hygiene items that can be used by the incoming refugees.
