Three Athens bars have made the World’s Best Bars list, further emphasizing the development of the hospitality scene in the Greek capital.
The three establishments, The Clumsies, Baba Au Rum and Barro Negro, are all located within just a few minutes walks from each other in central Athens.
The Clumsies, named the fourth best bar in the world for 2021, has made the list for the seventh time in a row, including six consecutive years in the top 10.
According to the 50 Top Bars Guide, “Part of The Clumsies’ undeniable charm is the ease with which it can do so many things so well.”
“It’s just as comfortable as a spot for a morning coffee and breakfast as a place in the evening to drink some of the most inventive cocktails that can be found anywhere, or for dancing on the bar at 2am,” the guide added. “This is thanks to co-owners Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis’ commitment to hospitality.”
On his Facebook page, Bakoulis said he was “super proud” of his team.
“Dreams sometimes come true when the team has vision and passion,” Bakoulis wrote..
Baba Au Rum, long considered one of the best bars in Athens, placed 14th on the list.
“Baba au Rum brought a revolutionary admiration of cocktails to the Greek capital when it opened 13 years ago, and to this day it remains the bar in Athens’ now thriving hospitality scene, held in highest regard,” according to the guide.
The third Athens bar to make the list is Barro Negro, a Tequila and Mezcal bar created by two passionate friends, bartenders and agave spirits lovers who have been traveling around Mexico and back to Athens for years with one mission only — to learn the story and culture of their favorite spirits.
