Α 3D Journey Through the History of Athens’ Kiosks

The iconic Athenian periptero (kiosk), a staple of Greek street life, takes centre in a new exhibition by visual artist Andreas Finch. Titled “On the Wings of the Wind – The Athenian Kiosks”, the exhibition opened on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at the Cultural Centre of the City of Athens.

Finch, also known as Finch of Athens, presents a collection of 20 three-dimensional models of varying sizes that chart the history and evolution of these iconic Greek mini-markets. The exhibition is the product of long-term research, documenting the historical, architectural, and folklore trajectory of the kiosk from the early 20th century through to the modern day.

Through these intricate miniatures, visitors can view specific historical landmarks that have defined the city’s streetscape. The collection includes the early polygonal kiosks of Syntagma Square, recreated based on vintage postcards, and the first “Minion” kiosk at Chafteia.

Other notable recreations include the “Muses” of Omonoia Square and the “Koutalas” kiosk of Glyfada.

The artist has even captured moments of urban transformation and accident, such as the model depicting the kiosk on Panepistimiou Street that famously collapsed during the Metro construction works in 1997.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Art Place – Kyriakos Petalidis gallery and is supported by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organisation (OPANDA).

The exhibition is hosted at the Cultural Centre of the City of Athens (50 Akadimias Street) and runs from 22 January to 22 February 2026. Opening Hours are Monday to Saturday, 10:00 am – 9:00 pm; Sunday, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Admission is free.
