Reuters photojournalist Alkis Konstantinidis was among approximately a dozen colleagues who received a 2019 Pulitzer Prize from Columbia University.

Konstantinidis and staff won an award in the Breaking News Photography category. The Pulitzer committee recognized the group for their photos covering mass migration of Central and South Americans toward the U.S. border.

The Pulitzer committee stated that the Reuters photojournalists recorded “a vivid and startling visual narrative of the urgency, desperation and sadness of migrants as they journeyed to the U.S. from Central and South America.”

Konstantinidis, 35, covers international events including politics, wars, natural disasters, humanitarian crises and sporting events.

This marks the second year that the Greek native received an award in the Breaking News Photography category and the second consecutive year that Reuters has received two Pulitzer Prizes.
