Former Google Executive Steve Vranakis Appointed Chief Creative Officer of Greece

Following a decision by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greek Canadian Steve Vranakis, one of the world’s most acclaimed creative executives, will assume the new role of Greece’s Chief Creative Officer.

The decision was made by the Prime Minister himself, who has appointed Vranakis to focus on re-branding the nation of Greece abroad with a focus on technology, creativity, innovation and sustainability.

Steve Vranakis, one of the most prominent diaspora Greeks, spent several years as the executive director of Google’s Creative Lab in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, position. He will leave his position at Google during his work with the Greek government.

Effective immediately, Vranakis will oversee the re-branding of the image of the country abroad, in conjunction with Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Greece and across numerous ministries and government organizations.

His goal is to let the world know that Greece is back and he aims to send a strong message to the legions of Greeks abroad that it’s time to return and rebuild the nation after a decade of crisis.

“It’s a new Greece,” Vranakis told the Pappas Post, adding that “I want to send a strong message to the world that ‘Greek’ and ‘Greece’ is back.”

Vranakis is one of the most awarded creative executives in the world. Raised by Greek immigrant parents in Vancouver Canada, his work includes projects with Apple, Amazon, NASA and other global conglomerates.

His work has been recognized by the Cannes Lions, D&AD, ADC, One Show’s, Campaign Big Awards, BTA’s, The FWA, Clio’s, Revolution, New Media Age, London International Advertising and the Andy Awards. His work has been featured in WIRED, The New York Times, Telegraph, Wall Street Journal, Creative Review, Huffington Post, FT, Design Week, Adage, and he’s written columns for Adweek, Marketing, Campaign, Revolution, New Media Age, Cre@te Magazine and conducted television interviews with the BBC and CNBC Europe.

He will relocate to Athens from his London base to assume his new role.
