Data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) indicates a continued decline in print media sales throughout last year.
Total newspaper sales reached 21,820,154 copies in 2025, representing an 11.7% decrease compared to 2024, when sales stood at 24,714,723. Similarly, magazine sales reached 9,624,427 copies in 2025, marking an 8.8% reduction from the 10,558,360 copies sold the previous year.

These figures follow previous declines recorded in 2024 which saw drops of 12.4% in newspapers and 14.9% in magazines compared to 2023.

Within the newspaper segment, political newspapers experienced an 11.2% year-over-year decline, with total sales amounting to 16,853,722 copies in 2025. This broader category was largely driven by daily political newspapers, which sold 10,459,647 copies following a 12.4% drop. Within these daily publications, evening papers saw a 13.4% decrease to 8,066,939 copies, while morning editions fell by 8.7% to 2,392,708 copies. Additionally, weekly and monthly political newspapers contributed the remaining 6,394,075 copies to the total, reflecting a 9.2% drop from 2024.
Decreasing circulation has not spared sports newspapers either. They recorded an overall sales volume of 4,440,093 copies and a decline of 13.7%, while financial newspaper sales dropped by 5.3% to 386,618 copies.

In the magazine sector, television magazines maintained the highest sales volume at 3,980,067 copies, despite experiencing a 9.6% decrease from 2024. Leisure and entertainment magazine sales dipped by 3.2% to a total of 2,575,002 copies.
A steep decline was observed in children’s magazines and comics, which fell by 17.1% to 733,584 sales, while general interest publications dropped by 22.7% to 564,203 copies.
Several specialized magazine categories also faced notable reductions—automotive magazines decreased by 11.8% to 60,260 copies, military publications fell by 16.7% to 32,129 copies, and sports magazines suffered a sharp 29.1% drop, with just 13,354 copies sold.
Standing out against this broader downward trend are women’s interest magazines. This was the sole category to hold steady in 2024 and even achieve positive growth in 2025, climbing 5.6% to reach 582,341 copies sold.
