Greek cuisine has been doing well in the global digital landscape, according to a new report by Chef’s Pencil. Ranking as the 11th most popular cuisine worldwide across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook in 2026, Greek cuisine also ranked 8th in growth on Instagram, gaining over 543,000 new hashtags between 2023 and 2026.
This places Greece as the second highest-ranked European cuisine internationally, through trailing well behind the global powerhouse that is Italian cuisine.

Interestingly, Greek cuisine has outperformed several European heavyweights, like French and Spanish cuisines. According to Chef’s Pencil, this is because social media visibility favors engagement and relatability over traditional culinary hierarchy.
The data reveals an appreciation for the Greece’s regional diversity, ranging from coastal seafood to mainland grilled meats and the culinary repertoire of baked goods and deserts. With a strong connection to tourism, Greek dishes thus translate effortlessly across different social media formats, from static photography to viral video recipes.
