Hollywood’s Rudy Youngblood Arrested (and Released) in Athens

American actor Rudy Youngblood, best known for his role in Mel Gibson’s 2006 film Apocalypto, has been released from Greek custody following an incident involving police officers in Athens.

Youngblood, 42, was arrested in the early hours of December 27, 2024, in the Kypseli district of Athens. Greek authorities charged him with weapons possession and resisting arrest after he allegedly displayed a knife during a confrontation with plainclothes officers.

The actor claimed he did not initially recognize the men as law enforcement and acted in self-defense, feeling threatened. He also cited unfamiliarity with Greek judicial procedures, stating he was unaware of his expired visa until after his detention.

Following a brief court appearance, Youngblood received a 10-month suspended sentence. However, he remained in custody due to his visa violation, which triggered deportation proceedings.

Youngblood later successfully appealed the deportation order, avoiding a five-year ban from Schengen Zone countries. His lawyer emphasized that Youngblood’s intentions in Greece were tied to his involvement in a film project and expressed the actor’s gratitude for resolving the situation amicably.

The actor is expected to leave Greece voluntarily in the coming days.
