In a Wednesday (March 18th) afternoon phone call, U.S. President Barack Obama, intervened on behalf of Greece, asking German Chancellor Angela Merkel for a “pragmatic agreement for Greece that is based on reforms that aim on returning Greece to growth within the Eurozone.”
The encouragement by the U.S. President came during a call with his German counterpart, during which the two were discussing the crisis in the Ukraine. Greece was not on the agenda of the call between the two. Obama raised the issue.
“They also reviewed recent developments in Greece and efforts to reach a pragmatic agreement that builds upon recent reforms to return the country to growth within the euro area,” the official White House statement read.
