Greek Orthodox Christians gathered amid ancient Greek ruins at Ephesus on the western coast of modern day Turkey to mark the commemoration of St. John the Apostle on May 8, 2016.

The ceremony was led by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and was attended by local Orthodox Christians, as well as numerous visitors from throughout Greece.

The small town of Selçuk, near Ephesus, hosts around 2.5 million tourists annually to visit the nearby Ancient Greek ruins and numerous early Christian sites, including St. John’s tomb and a church built in his honor.
