Greek Tourism Startup Lands €3.3 Million Investment

An Athens-based startup company offering personalized travel services recently received €3.3 million in new investments.

Welcome Pickups’ new funding will allow it to offer more services, add employees and grow its list of destinations worldwide. The startup will also partner with more travel companies such as cruise lines and airlines.

Founded in 2015, Welcome provides “in-destination” services for travelers — from pickup to departure. This includes a driver who picks clients up upon arrival, gives them products such as SIM cards, travel guides and tickets for attractions, escorts them to their place of accommodation and returns them to their point of departure at the end of a trip.

Co-founder Savvas Georgiou attributed the recent success to his company’s “winning combination” of excellent staff and funding.

“We believe that every traveler deserves the warmest Welcome Pickups experience,” Georgiou said in an announcement. “We are dedicated to making our services as accessible and integrated as it gets in the travel tech industry.”

In addition to pick up and drop-off services, Welcome provides 24/7 customer support via mobile application for the duration of clients’ trips. The company also partners with hotels and bed-and-breakfast hosts to facilitate guest arrival and check-in.

In 2018, Welcome served more than 400,000 travelers in 32 destinations and estimates that number will increase to 1 million in 2019.

The startup’s latest round of investors includes VentureFriends, Market One Capital, Howzat, Jabbar, and Openfund.
