Athens’ National and Kapodistrian University announced Wednesday that it will offer its first English-language degree, making it the first Greek state-owned university to do so.
The four-year undergraduate program will admit only non-EU students and includes courses in Greek archaeology, ancient Greek history, literature and modern Greek.
The multi-disciplinary course selection will allow participants to study the culture of ancient Greece while learning about some of Greece’s most important archaeological monuments and sites, including the Acropolis and the Parthenon, Delphi and Olympia, among others.
“I am very proud of EKPA’s initiative, which proves that Greek universities can ‘spread their wings’ abroad,” Greek Education Minister Niki Kerameus said. “If not here, then where? If not us, then who?”
Offered in collaboration with the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki, the program lasts eight semesters spread over four years with a cost of 6,000 euros ($6,670) per year.
Course registration begins in January 2020 and the program will launch in September 2020. The university will accept up to 100 students per academic year.
