Piles of debris flew through the air as a violent tornado ripped through an olive oil factory in the southern Greek city of Kalamata.
Dozens of workers inside the factory escaped before the tornado struck at about 1 pm local time and no casualties were reported.
Security cameras captured the twister’s devastation, which sent metal panels and debris into the air — including toward parked cars next to the factory
Local media reported that the tornado destroyed a warehouse at the olive oil factory, which is also a major producer of balsamic dressing.
According to Meteo, the National Observatory of Athens weather service, 107 tornadoes struck Greece in 2018. But only three caused significant damage.
Earlier this year, six people died when a severe storm ravaged the northern beach resort region of Halkidiki. Gale-force winds, heavy rain and hail caused mass devastation, ripping up trees, power pylons and vehicles — and leaving tons of debris scattered.
