Alex Patelis, the chief economic adviser to the prime minister of Greece, joined an English-language podcast on Monday to discuss the Greek startup scene in light of recent investments by J.P. Morgan & Chase and Meta.
Patelis joined the Hellenic American Leadership Council and Katherimini’s daily podcast, The Greek Current, to discuss the foreign investments and their implications for Greek startups and the national economy.
J.P. Morgan recently announced the acquisition of a 49% stake in the Athens-based startup Viva Wallet. The investment will reportedly top $1.15 billion.
Jamie Dimon, the J.P. Morgan CEO, visited Greece during the days after the announcement and said the company is looking to expand its presence in the country.
Reports indicate that Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, is also planning significant investments in Greece, further entrenching the country on the tech map.
