Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis contacted President of Ukraine Zolodymyr Zelensky on Monday to assure him that his country is backed by Greece.
The phone call was initiated by Zelensky, with the conversation centered on the current situation in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
Mitsotakis assured Zelensky of the “full support” of the Greek government and said Greece would continue to send aid and welcome refugees.
Mitsotakis said that the EU sent an important political message of support from France last week for the European perspective of Ukraine. The Greek prime minister also said that the full implementation of sanctions by Ukraine’s partners and allies would pressure Russia to stop its attacks.
The two leaders discussed the dramatic situation in areas of Ukraine where the Greek community lives and the need to create a safe exit path with access to humanitarian aid.
