Greek Government Partners With Vodafone to Create Domestic Violence Prevention App

The Greek government will join forces with Vodafone to develop an application that will allow women to report incidents of domestic abuse.

The collaboration was announced on Saturday during the 7th Delphi Economic Forum where the two parties signed a memorandum of cooperation on “Technology against the use of gender and domestic violence.”

According to a report by Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Vodafone will develop the the new application in collaboration with the Greek Police. The app will allow women to report incidents of abusive behavior by pressing a secret panic button on their mobile phone.

Greek Minister of State Akis Skertsos said he was satisfied with the new innovation, which would allow authorities to deal with the country’s increase in violent crimes and murders of women.

Skertsos said the app will not initially be available to the general public, but rather to women who are already victims of violence while it remains hidden in the mobile phone’s software.
