New Bridge Connecting Greece and Turkey Gets Green Light

The Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has announced its financial commitment to major cross-border infrastructure project: a new bridge connecting Greece and Turkey at the Kipi–Ipsala crossing. The bridge would mark a significant step in strengthening regional connectivity and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The “Kipi–Ipsala Friendship and Trust Bridge,” as it is officially called, will be an extradosed design consisting of three spans and a total length of 811 meters, 344 of which lie within Greek territory. It features two lanes in each direction, as well as an emergency lane and pedestrian walkways.

Positioned just meters from an existing 800m long bridge built in 1954 and operational since 1964, the new bridge would would help enhance Turkey’s road access to the EU, via the Egnatia Motorway and the Pan-European Corridors that connect to it.

The Greek portion of the project is estimated at €67.5 million and will be managed by Egnatia Odos S.A. The Turkish segment will be overseen by the General Directorate of Highways (KGM). According to the Greek Ministry’s decision, Egnatia Odos must finalize tender documentation by the end of 2025.
