Dozens of New Yorkers— including former Ambassadors and dignitaries came together to greet Eleni Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis, the first Greek American woman appointed U.S. Ambassador and one of the youngest ambassadors ever, on the heels of the release of her new book “Madam Ambassador.”
The reception was hosted at the mansion of Dennis and Karen Mehiel in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Ambassador Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis spoke about the challenges she faced upon arriving in Hungary, noting that her post wasn’t always about dinner parties and social functions. Upon her arrival in Budapest, she was faced with numerous challenges, including a radical shift of government and a growing rise in anti-Semitism in the country.
She also spoke of the great times she experienced in Hungary, including once being referred to as the “Greek Ambassador of the United States to Hungary.”
