A food blogger and Houston resident wants to add a bit of Texas sweetness to your donation to Houston relief efforts. You read correctly. Sweetness— and not only with a wonderfully delicious Greek twist, but with a big, Texas twist too.
Known affectionately as Sophaki to her followers at her Sophaki Cooks food blog, Sophia Sissamis will match your donations to the city of Houston’s relief and recovery fund, established by Mayor Sylvester Turner, with some of her signature Baklava in a jar.
The fund is being housed by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, which is where all donations to her campaign will go.
Here comes the good part.
When you donate, Sophia sends you her signature Texas Baklava in a jar, a concept recipe that she developed which is a twist on the familiar Greek pastry, but made with Texas pecans instead of walnuts. Her version still includes the traditional honey and is baked in a half-pint mason jar.
Depending on the amount of your donation to the emergency relief fund, you’ll have the option of the classic version, or the chocolate variety.
