Greek Street Food in Bear Market Territory According to Taste Atlas Rankings

Taste Atlas has released its latest 50 Best Street Food rankings, with some surprising changes for Greece’s most iconic street foods.

Leading the Greek entries is kontosouvli, ranked 19th overall—marking the highest placement for the Greek entries and, at least in this author’s view, an unlikely candidate for the street food category. If you don’t believe me, eat a whole portion of kontosouvli and try to continue on your merry way down the street.

Our very own gyro, the world’s most recognized (and tastiest) Greek street food, follows at 23rd place having fallen slightly from 17th place compared to 2023.

The news is ever worse for the once global favorite souvlaki (kalamaki for you Athenians) which just two years ago ranked 20th, and has since tumbled down to 55th place.

Rounding out the Greek entries is (also not street food) kokoretsi which appears to receive no love at all, falling even further down the 2025 Taste Atlas Street Food rankings to 96th place, from 47th place just two years ago.
