A recent nationwide survey conducted by Metron Analysis on behalf of the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen (EEA) reveals continued financial and housing pressures for Greeks. The survey focused on demographics and young Greek scientists.
Pessimism overwhelmingly dominates the outlook of Greeks aged 17 to 45. A significant majority (76%) believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction, with the cost of living being their most pressing concern (71%).
39% of respondents believe their lives will worsen over the next five to ten years, while 34% believe it will improve.
According to the EEA press release citing the survey, the majority (70%) of young Greeks also feel that financial and/or housing difficulties prevent them from having children. That’s why having children ranks low among the priorities of those polled (24%) while marriage ranks even lower (9%).
A majority of Greeks polled (68%) have seriously considered leaving Greece to seek a better life abroad.
The Metron Analysis survey also polled Greeks on their feelings towards AI, with opinion almost evenly split—51% view it as an opportunity for workers in Greece, while 49% view it as a threat.
