The Greek America Foundation has announced a $10,000 grant to Ronald McDonald House Charities Greece (RMHC Hellas) to support the completion and launch of its new Ronald McDonald Family Room at Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital in Athens.
The grant will help cover the remaining costs of constructing and outfitting the Ronald McDonald Family Room, ensuring a smooth start to its operations. Once completed, the Family Room will offer a welcoming space where parents and families can find rest and support during challenging times.
Gregory C. Pappas, founder and president of the Greek America Foundation, presented the grant in person to RMHC Hellas Executive Director Dafni Tsakyraki. He was joined by Achilleas Voutsinas—who helped facilitate the relationship between the foundation and RMHC Hellas—and Steven Tsaroupoulos, a supporter of the Greek America Foundation’s projects in Athens.

The grant is part of Greek America Foundation’s “Project Hope for Greece” campaign, which has provided more than $980,000 in direct financial support to numerous charitable causes in Greece since launching a decade ago.
“It’s our responsibility to serve the vulnerable populations of Greece,” said Pappas, adding that “Greek summer is great, we all love the sun and the sea, but there is a responsibility, or rather a burden, of claiming to be of Greek heritage. And that burden is to carry and support Greece and her people.”
The Ronald McDonald Family Room, will be located in a formerly disused building on the Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital grounds. Spanning 3,300 square feet, the Family Room will include a kitchen, private bathrooms, sleeping rooms, laundry facilities, internet access, a quiet room, and a television lounge. Three private family suites will also be available for overnight stays, free of charge.
Established in 2023, RMHC Hellas creates and supports programmes that directly impact the health and wellbeing of children and their families. RMHC is there for families when they need it most – in their own communities.
