23 Photos from Greek Independence Day in the Greekest Place in America— Where Kalymnos and the Sponge Rule

The town of Tarpon Springs, Florida celebrated Greek Independence Day the way most of the rest of the world does— with a parade.

With the backdrop of sponge docks, an avenue called Dodecanese Boulevard and thousands of Greeks— who make up more than 10 per cent of the city’s population, it was a perfect day on Florida’s Gulf Coast to celebrate the anniversary of Greece’s Independence.

We thank readers Irene Karavokiros, Eric Hill, Dee Jay Metaxa, Lekkas Photography and others for these great images.
