The Greek passport has climbed two places in the Henley Passport Index for 2026, securing 4th place globally, in a significant improvement in international standing.

The ascent places Greek passport holders squarely within an elite group of ten nations that includes Germany, France, and Italy. Greek passport holders now have visa-free access to 185 countries out of the 227 monitored by the passport index. That translates to reduced bureaucracy, lower travel costs, and enhanced flexibility to travel for work, study, or leisure.
According to the Henley website, the index “…is the original, authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) – the largest, most accurate travel information database – and enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team.”
The Greek passport also places tenth in the Henley Economic Mobility Score, which links passport strength and economic power.
