Visitors from the United States to Athens continue to arrive in record numbers this year, with the Greek capital having already surpassed pre-pandemic 2019 stats in terms of American arrivals.
According to travel analytics firm ForwardKeys, U.S. visitors to Athens in Q3 are up 27 percent from 2019 numbers, while travel from the U.S. to Europe during the same period was down by 6 percent.
ForwardKeys analysts attribute the increase to the favorable euro-dollar exchange rate which U.S. travelers are benefiting from while visiting Europe in the last quarter of the year.
“For Q4, we see further improvement for Lisbon as a destination for US passengers, currently, at +50 percent over 2019 levels, this is being driven by arrivals from San Francisco at +119 percent, and Washington and Miami both at +84 percent,” ForwardKeys Insights Vice President Olivier Ponti said.
According to the firm’s report, travel recovery in Europe is still going strong into Q4 exceeding Q3 and 2019 levels driven in large part by a returning demand in European city destinations.
