Every year on August 27, Orthodox Christians throughout the world celebrate the Feast Day of St. Phanourios. In addition to the usual prayers and services offered by clergy, this day also allows the faithful to play a significant role in the celebration.
Cakes called “Phanouropita” are baked and brought to churches to be blessed.
This cake honors the memory of Saint Phanourios the great martyr who appears to have lived during the second or third century- the peak of Christian persecutions.
Believers pray to St.Phanourios particularly for help in finding lost items and for guidance in a given situation.
