COVID-19 cases in Greece are spiking again, with authorities announcing 12,537 new cases in the last 24 hours, a very sharp increase from the 4,382 announced on Monday.
According to the National Organization for Public Health (EODY), there was also a spoke in COVID-related deaths, which rose to 14 from 11 the previous day, taking the official nationwide number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 30,115.
There were 96 coronavirus patients on ventilators on Tuesday, one less than Monday.
Health authorities said they had conducted a total of 154,731 tests in the last 24 hours (16,783 PCR and 137,948 rapid antigen).
Greek health officials are expecting a surge of cases this summer with tourist numbers back up and restrictions being lifted.
The officials are hopeful that the spike in cases will not significantly affect ICU hospitalizations and deaths.
