Greek Fusion Group Imam Baildi Readies for US Tour

Named after the delicious Mediterranean eggplant dish, one of the hottest groups to come out of Greece in years is ready for its first-ever North American tour. Imam Baildi is led by two talented brothers, Lysandros and Orestis Falireas, and their 8 – piece band.

Their sound brings together Greek music of the 1940’s 50’s and 60’s with new orchestration production and remixing techniques. Their two LPs, released in 2008 and 2011, reached gold status in Greece and stayed on the charts for 30 consecutive weeks. Concurrently, they were the first Greek albums to reach the top of the European World Music charts.

Although they have appeared in the United States before— at the highly-touted SXSW Music Festival in Texas in 2013— this will be their first formal tour of North America that will include festivals and appearances in Louisiana, Philadelphia and New York City.

So, forget folklore and have a taste of Imam Baildi’s world famous home cooking: Bouzouki meets electro swing, Greek roots meet hip hop and mambo big band orchestration and the Greek version of Balkan Brass blends with nostalgic female vocals and their crowd engaging MC.
