Although it was originally reported that no scenes of Christopher Nolan’s next film based on the Odyssey of Homer would not be shot in Greece, reports from southern Greece have emerged of a film titled “Charlie’s Tale” preparing to shot specific scenes in March and April in the Peloponnese.
The Greek Ministry of Culture has authorized filming under strict preservation conditions.
“Charlie’s Tale” was the code name of the Odyssey project, perhaps not to attract publicity or hype around the filming locations. It was the name used on the official applications that were submitted to the Greek Ministry of Culture.
Specifically, scenes from Odysseus’ encounter with the one-eyed Cyclops will be shot in several locations, including Voidokilia Beach and Nestor’s Cave.
A 6×6 meter mechanical anthropomorphic puppet will be built inside Nestor’s Cave, likely representing the Cyclops Polyphemus.
In the epic poem by HOMER, Odysseus is trapped by a Cyclops inside a cave, and even sees six of his companions devoured by the creature.
Additional scenes will shoot at Almyrolaka Beach, Methoni Castle, and Acrocorinth, a monolithic rock overlooking the ancient city of Corinth
