The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has released its official long-range seasonal forecast for summer 2025, projecting above-average temperatures across most of Greece from June through August.
According to the EMY’s seasonal bulletin, average temperatures are expected to be 1.8°–3.6°F (1-2°C) higher than normal in northern regions, particularly Macedonia, Thrace, and northern Thessaly. Southwestern Greece may experience milder deviations of 0.9°F(5°C).
The forecast is based on two long-range models: the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) and the Copernicus multi-model system, both of which show strong convergence on a “relatively warm” summer.

Rainfall is forecast to be below normal in northern Greece, especially in the same regions experiencing elevated temperatures like Macedonia, Thrace and northern Thessaly. While the models differ slightly in predicted precipitation for the rest of the country, EMY notes that dry summers are typical for many areas, including the Cyclades.
EMY Meteorologists caution that these long-term forecasts come with uncertainties, but point out that a hotter-than-usual summer in Greece is the most probable scenario.
