The PanMacedonian Association and the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York are planning a demonstration in New York City on March 18 at the United Nations Plaza to express their opposition to any use of the word “Macedonia” in negotiations currently under way between the governments of Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Massive demonstrations have already taken place in Thessaloniki and Athens, as well as smaller demonstrations in numerous European, Canadian and Australian cities. This is the first demonstration happening in the United States.
The demonstration will begin at noon on Sunday, March 18 at United Nations Plaza.
Organizers are working with a nationwide network of Greek American organizations and are hoping for a large crowd from throughout the nation.
Since you’re here… I have a small favor to ask.
More and more people than ever before are reading The Pappas Post and despite increasing costs to maintain the site and provide you with the quality content that you deserve, I will never “force” you to pay for our website or add a paywall. I believe in the democracy of the internet and want to keep this site and its enriching content free for everyone. But at the same time I’m asking those who frequent the site to chip in and help keep it both high quality— and free. We’ve implemented a “free-will” annual subscription for those who want to support our efforts.
