(Photos) Concrete Poured, St. Nicholas National Shrine at World Trade Center Taking Shape

February was a busy month at the construction site of St. Nicholas National Shrine, the new church and shrine which is being built at the World Trade Center in New York City.

The new church replaces St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church which was destroyed during the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

On February 22, Archbishop Demetrios inspected the site, together with officials from the Archdiocese, which is overseeing the project. They inspected the concrete and steel platform that was just completed.

A $40 million fundraising campaign is progressing well, with donations and support coming from individuals, churches, community organizations and corporations throughout the nation and world.

Concrete was poured on February 20, which covered the metal deck that was completed on February 2.

A live webcam is installed, allowing people to watch realtime progress at the construction site.
