Actor Tom Hanks and actress-singer Rita Wilson have pledged $1 million to aid recovery and support efforts following the recent Altadena and Palisades fires. In a post shared on Instagram, the couple spoke of the destruction caused by the fires and also praised first responders and firefighters for their efforts.
“Like so many of us,” wrote Hanks and Wilson in their post, “we see the loss and devastation wrought by the Altadena and Palisades fires. The challenges to the future of these communities is immense.”
The couple expressed their gratitude for “the First Responders and Firefighters, from all over, who fought with all they had in order to save homes and people.”
In the post, Hanks and Wilson said they would donate their $1 million contribution among five organizations – namely, the Motion Picture & Television Fund, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the American Red Cross, and MusiCares. The couple also urged others to donate if they can, saying that “everything helps.”
