US Airlines to Offer More Flights to Greece

Americans may soon have more flight options when traveling to Greece, with US airlines reportedly looking to offer more flights, from more US cities and to more Greek destinations.

Greece’s Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias held a teleconference with the heads of leading US carriers Delta, American Airlines and United recently, with the minister explaining afterwards that he expects an increase in seat capacity and larger aircraft arriving to Greece this year from the US.

Meanwhile, new connections linking Greece with cities such as Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles are being considered for next year.

“What the teleconferences had in common was the positive messages regarding bookings to Greece from the US market this year,” Minister Kikilias said to the Athens News Agency (ANA).

During the call between Kikilias and Delta executives it was noted that Dela was exploring the option of extending the duration of their seasonal operations to Greece to 10 months, thereby extending their flights until the end of December to include services for the Christmas Holidays, and to begin as early as late February for the commencement of the winter cruise itineraries.

In the call with American Airlines, Kilikias and AA executives agreed to examine the possibilities of opening new destinations from the US to Greece in 2023-2024.

Thoughts include connecting US cities also with Thessaloniki and Heraklion (Crete) in addition to Athens.

Talks also focused on the opening of new flight connections from US cities to Greece and specifically from Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles.

In their discussions, United indicated it was ready to carry out flights to Athens on a larger aircraft due to increased demand.

United also indicated an interest in launching a flight to Thessaloniki.
