This month, the newly inaugurated U.S. Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis returned to his parents’ village of Platanos, located in western mainland Greece.
“It’s an honor to return to my Greek roots to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece,” Tsunis said in a statement. “I invite you to watch this video capturing my recent visit to the village of Platanos, where my parents were born, and my thoughts about strengthening our countries’ incredible partnership.”
Tsunis arrived in Athens in May to begin his tenure as the next ambassador and successor to Geoffrey Pyatt, who served since 2017 after being appointed under the Obama Administration.
The New York native earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University and his law degree from St. John’s University and practiced law at Rivkin Radler, Long Island, New York’s largest law firm before founding Chartwell Hotels.
His work experience includes government service as a staffer in the United States Senate, an attorney at a large law firm, a director on publicly traded companies and as the chairman of multiple government agencies.
