Giannis Antetokounmpo has gone from the streets of Athens to the top of the NBA after being announced as the 2019 league MVP earlier this week.
But it’s not the only peak he has reached.
At the top of Mount Olympus — the tallest point in Greece — Nike made an honorary gesture to commemorate the “Greek Freak” and his latest achievement.
For its newly released video, the sporting goods company “placed” a basketball hoop atop the highest peak in Greece. Whether it’s by magic of photoshop– or Zeus himself, we will never know.
Featured on the hoop is an inscription that reads “Fate can start you at the bottom. Dreams can take you to the top.”
The message alludes to Antetokounmpo’s rise — from the slums of Athens to international stardom — while invoking the mystical wonder of Mount Olympus.
With a peak height of approximately 9,577 feet, the mountain is an iconic location from Greek mythology — known as the home of the Greek gods.
Earlier this week, Nike released another video dedicated to Antetokounmpo which has garnered millions of views on social media.
