Greece has announced further COVID-19 restrictions as the government is desperately trying to curtail the spread of virus in the country.
The new restrictions, which include restaurants and bars closing at midnight, were announced by Greek Health Minister Thanos Plevris on Monday.
On the same day Greece also announced 9,285 new confirmed infections, while 66 patients died.
The new measures, which will be in place until January 16, include mandatory use of high respiratory protection masks (FP2) or double masking in supermarkets and on public transport. They will also be mandatory for all hospitality staff.
In addition, venues must now close by midnight, while only six people will be allowed per table. Standing has also been forbidden in entertainment and dining venues. The minister warned that if the measures are not observed, music will be banned.
He also said crowds at sporting venues will be capped to 10% of capacity, with a maximum of 1,000 people. If the measures are not observed, all the matches will be held behind closed doors.
Other measures include the need of a PCR test to visit nursing homes and hospitals, and for remote working in the private and public sector to go up to 50 percent of employees.
These new measures come into force on Monday, January 3, 2022 and will be valid until January 16, whereafter they may be extended.
