Fort Worth, Texas-based American American Airlines has announced it will launch a non-stop flight between its hub at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago and Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens, Greece.
The non-stop flight will commence on May 3, 2019, making it the only carrier flying between Chicago and Greece.
“American Airlines has demonstrated its commitment to investing in the future of O’Hare and continues steady growth in this market. … The addition of first-ever nonstop service to Athens stands to further increase Chicago’s leading global connectivity, and is expected to deliver a $45 million annual economic impact for the city,” Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Lauren Huffman said in an emailed statement to The Pappas Post.
Via its official Twitter account, Athens International Airport welcomed the new non-stop service to the Greek capital.

United Airlines currently offers seasonal non stop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Athens.
Delta Airlines also offers two flights daily from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Both carriers cease their seasonal flights in late September or early October.
Emirates Airlines also maintains a daily, year-round non-stop flight between Newark and Athens.
American Airlines already flies into Athens during the summer months via its Philadelphia hub.
