Dogs in Athens have two new parks where they can enjoy off-leash exercise and play in a secure environment.
The launch of the two new spaces is another step in the city’s aim to become more green and more user-friendly for citizens.
The municipality of Athens opened the two dog parks in the inner-south suburb of Neos Kosmos and the inner-north areas of Probonas. The parks feature separate zones for small and large dogs, ensuring safety during off-leash play.
The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, says the city is determined to become more pet-friendly.
“These two modern parks are just the beginning. We aim to create more dog parks in the city’s neighborhoods and give pets the ideal circumstances to play and learn,” Bakoyannis said.
Bakoyannis shared images of the new park in an announcement on Facebook.
He said the two parks offer pet owners and their dogs the opportunity to enjoy their walks any time of the day. The parks also have extra lighting during the evening hours for safety reasons.
They will also include climbing ramps, wooden ascending/descending corridors and wooden obstacles for dogs of all sizes, along with water stations to keep the dogs hydrated, benches and areas for shade during the hot months.
