Exploring the most beautiful abandoned places in the world for the past 22 years, urban explorer Bob Thissen has traveled to many of the world’s long forgotten places in about 85 countries on 5 continents
In his latest trek, he visited the island of Kefalonia in western Greece, to explore the last intact NATO ACE High base, which has been abandoned for years.
ACE High stations were part of a NATO Cold War-era communication network, spanning over 8,000 kilometers across Europe. They utilized tropospheric scatter technology to transmit microwave signals over long distances, ensuring secure and reliable communication between NATO command centers.
These stations were strategically located and often hidden in remote areas, playing a crucial role in maintaining communication during the Cold War.
