To Adele, Mariah Carey and His Adoring Twitter Fans, George Michael was “The Singing Greek”

Unlike dozens of famous performers and politicians who have public relations and communications managers handling their social media platforms, George Michael was an avid user of Twitter, all by himself.

He used the platform to communicate with fans and to send his fellow entertainers birthday greetings.

On Twitter, on numerous occasions, George signed his Tweets “the singing Greek.”

These included birthday greetings to Adele, Mariah Carey, as well as a big thank you Tweet he posted to his fans for all of the birthday greetings he received on June 25th.

He also thanked his fans for listening to his music.

Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou to a Greek Cypriot immigrant father in London and a British mother.

According to “Careless Whispers: The Life and Career of George Michael,” he attended Greek school as a kid in Willesden, north London and was raised in a very strict, Greek conservative environment.

He was also a major benefactor for an organization that supports Greek Cypriots living with Thalassemia.
