Dior Releases Documentary Highlighting Greek Artisans

Dior has released a documentary showing what transpired behind-the-scenes of its Cruise 2022 collection which premiered at the Panathenaic Olympic Stadium in Athens last June.

Created by Athenian filmmaker Marianna Economou, “The Greek Bar Jacket” is an all-encompassing and yet intimately personal exploration of the collaborations, influences, moments and emotions that have made this Greece-inspired collection so unique.

Highlighting the specialized savoir-faire of a number of Greek artisans along with that contained in the House’s own ateliers, the film also reveals the role played by the art and architecture of antiquity in this cross-cultural exchange.

“Maria Grazia Chiuri [Dior’s women’s creative director] gave Athenian filmmaker Marianna Economou carte blanche to pull the curtain,” Dior said in a statement.

Economou, who directed Greece’s 2019 box office hit film “When Tomatoes Met Wagner,” met with actors at the Panathenaic Stadium to retrace Chiuri’s creative process. (Click here to watch Dior’s Cruise 2022 collection premiere from June 2021)

The documentary begins in Argos at the workshop of tailor Aristeidis Tzonevrakis, who reinterpreted the iconic bar jacket.

Economou then travels to Soufli, in northern Greece, to visit the factory of Kostas Mouhtaridis and Dimitra Kolotoura, where Dior’s silks are produced.

The filmmaker also visits the island of Thasos to capture illustrator Christiana Soulou’s creations which are transposed onto cut-yarn jacquard dresses.
