Montreal-born Katherine Duska has been selected to represent Greece at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 14-16, 2019.

Duska was chosen via an internal selection process by a team at Greece’s National Broadcaster ERT.

Duska is a Greek-Canadian singer/songwriter currently based in Athens. Her acclaimed debut album Embodiment was released in 2016 by Minos EMI/Universal Records.

Katerine’s musical style channels the dark sonic timbres of Lykke Li and Jessie Ware and her trademark soulful rasp has earned her comparisons to Amy Winehouse by some in the music media.

Her song will be released on March 7.

The task force of the state television appointed to identify Greece’s representation “considers Katerine Duska to be an interpreter with a special sound color that is illustrated by the compositions and verses she herself signs,” the ERT statement read.

“She also represents a modern musical trend that does not reproduce industrial stereotypes; instead she absorbs in a personal way the influences of the different societies in which she has grown and stands out,” the statement added.

ERT Network announced the news on its evening broadcast (in Greek).
