A Greek movie that has already won 19 international film awards is hoping to be named the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards in March 2022.
Written and directed by Georgis Grigorakis, “Digger” is a 2020 Greek drama starring Vangelis Mourikis.
The film had its world premier screening as part of the Panorama section at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival in 2020, where it won the independent jury International Confederation of Art Cinemas’ Art Cinema Award.
“Digger” has been shown and nominated in festivals worldwide, winning 19 awards. The film was nominated for 14 awards at the Hellenic Film Academy Awards and won 10, including Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography.
Set in the rich forests of Northern Greece, “Digger” is a modern-day psychological Western centered around Nikitas, an iconoclastic farmer at war against the encroachments of a ravenous industry and the demons of his past. When his estranged son appears on his doorstep with a motorcycle and a grudge, nature itself will shake at their clash.
