This holiday season, a leading group of Greek-American youth did their part by donating $12,500 to the children of St. Basil’s Academy in Garrison, New York.
The Sons of Pericles and their sister organization — Maids of Athena — collaborated to raise funds for the academy, which feeds, houses and educates orphans.
“We work each year to have a significant impact in our community,” President Gregory Vourloumis said. “It’s always an honor to be able to give back and to serve; but to meet the children of St. Basil’s and to see their bright smiles during the Christmas holiday is a gift unto itself.”
The Sons will continue their service work by raising funds for Smile of the Child, an Athens-based non-profit organization aiding child victims of domestic violence, abuse, poverty and similar issues.
The organization will raise funds leading up to its national convention in July in Chicago, Illinois.
