Six months ago people in Greece laughed and jeered at Lady Gaga’s arrival al Athens Airport when she emerged, dressed as a mermaid and later posted semi-nude photos of herself at the Grand Bretagne Hotel in Central Athens. The Greek blogosphere and Twitterdom went wild, many poking fun at her eccentric ways.

Six months later after her unforgettable performance at the Academy Awards, people in Greece and throughout the world are in awe of her talent. Gaga’s Sound of Music tribute became a trending topic amongst Greek twitter users, even more than when Alexandre Desplat, who won for Best Original Score gave his Greek mother a shout out during his acceptance speech.
